Life as a Sheffield Wedding Photographer!

It’s been a while since I last blogged, and I’m thrilled to introduce a new weekly feature—“Wedding Wednesday”—inspired by my friends at Halifax Hall!

Drawing on over 18 years of experience as a Sheffield wedding photographer, I’ll be sharing valuable insights, behind-the-scenes knowledge, and the unique perspectives I’ve gained along the way. And of course, I’ll be showcasing some of my favourite wedding photographs each week—highlighting moments that tell a love story and reflect the joy, connection, and creativity of the couples I photograph.

Through these images, I hope to inspire couples planning their own weddings—from venue choices and décor ideas to emerging trends in lighting, styling, and candid storytelling. Whether you’re looking for creative ways to use a quirky urban backdrop or seeking tips to make the most of a rustic countryside venue, each “Wedding Wednesday” will include visual inspiration and practical takeaways to help your big day shine.

Sheffield wedding photographer’s tips for choosing your venue

As a Sheffield-based wedding photographer, I love balancing urban backdrops with the lush countryside—especially in the nearby Peak District. That mix of quirky city vibes and natural beauty makes the perfect setting for unforgettable weddings.

Last month, I had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful wedding of Katie & Pete at the Peak District Holiday Barn. Tucked within the Peak District National Park, the barn is a stunning venue with on-site accommodation—ideal for wedding parties to stay, relax, and prepare together.
What struck me most was the genuine bond between Katie & Pete. While affectionate moments are common, their comfort with each other—especially during romantic portraits—felt truly special. It seemed like they were in their own world, fully present and excited for their future and their soon-to-be-expanded family.

Rustic Peak District venue inspiration

The venue’s blend of rustic charm and dramatic landscapes gave us endless backdrop options. From festoon-lit interiors to sweeping views of the Derbyshire hills, each location brought out something new and wonderful in Katie & Pete’s story.

Catering delights: Tapas Catering served up a mouthwatering paella. Canapés and delicious desserts were supplied from Steel City Catering—perfect for communal celebration.
Special guest: Ginny, the groom’s parents’ fox‑red Labrador (my favourite breed!), brought even more joy to the day—an absolute highlight from a photographer’s perspective.
