Kirsty & Ben

Date of Wedding: 22nd December 2021

Location: The H Boutique Hotel Bakewell & Chatsworth House

Can you tell me briefly your love story? How did you meet? How long have you been together and how did the proposal happen?

“Our love story began on a wonderful app called Plenty of Fish ha! Neither of us had high expectations from meeting someone online but as soon as we started speaking we just knew it had happened, we spent all our days messaging back and forth before we arranged our first date. Ben proposed by lake Windermere on our one year anniversary – at this moment he declared he didn’t want a long engagement. Five years later we found ourselves still engaged. After having our second little boy we began to seriously plan a little wedding and decided to just go and do it by ourselves. However one day I found myself scrolling through Facebook whilst waiting to pick up a family member from the train station and I saw a competition to win a wedding at Chatsworth! Of course I jumped at the chance to enter and Ben told me it would be a con. It also happened to be the closing day of the competition and a few hours later I received a message to say we had won. I couldn’t believe it!! So we met the wedding planner and booked our wedding for in six months time. I absolutely love Christmas and nothing beats Chatsworth at Christmas so we picked the 22nd of December. It was a busy few months especially with a newborn at home but somehow it all just fell perfectly.”

If you had a pre-shoot tell me more about this? Why was this important to do, what did you get out of it?

“We booked a pre wedding shoot with our children and this reassured us that we had picked the right person to capture our day.”

Can you tell me about your wedding day? Why did you choose your venue? Who were the suppliers involved?

“We didn’t really use many suppliers, I love having a project to work on and doing arts and crafts so I thoroughly embraced spending my maternity leave creating exactly what we wanted. Ben also decided he didn’t want a full on wedding cake so we also spent six months cheesecake tasting, I genuinely didn’t think I’d fit in my dress we ate so much!”

Finally, how did you find the photography element? What was your experience of having Sarah photograph your day and the final product you received?

“We booked Sarah as a result of a recommendation from a friend who is a photographer herself. We wanted someone who would play a casual part in our wedding day, we aren’t the photo posing type of couple at all and to us the thought off it all made us feel very awkward. Having Sarah as a photographer was exactly what we wanted and what we needed. Sarah was a brilliant at just fitting in with the day and a few of our guests have commented at how well she did at blending in and not being full on. At the same time Sarah did a brilliant job when it came to mine and bens individual photos, she gave us guidance and advice throughout and captured so many beautiful photos. The photos didn’t take too long to come back and we really enjoyed getting a little sneak peak just days after the wedding especially with it being so close to Christmas. As soon as all the photos had been edited we received our slideshow which was lovely to watch, we also received them all on a memory stick and in an album so we could easily share them with our family – the presentation of the album and the memory stick was also a lovely touch. Thank you again Sarah x.”
