Hannah & Sam

Date of Wedding: 9th April 2022

Location: Thornbridge Hall & Hotel Van Dyk

Can you tell me briefly your love story? How did you meet? How long have you been together and how did the proposal happen?

“We met when we were students (20 and 18), Sam had just joined as a Christmas temp where I worked. It was an instantaneous connection and we were inseparable from that day on.
Five years later we went to Florence. On our first night there we went to watch the sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo, it was there Sam proposed.”

Can you tell me about your wedding day? Why did you choose your venue? Who were the suppliers involved?

“At times it felt that we were so unlucky with our wedding planning. Two venues cancelled on us, one with six months notice the second with just over two. We were also a “pandemic” wedding and had our wedding cancelled twice because of Covid. Our long engagement turned into an even longer engagement BUT nearly five years later we finally married!
Despite having to send out FIVE sets of wedding invitations and change plans countless times, our actual wedding was better than we could have imagined. We ended up having Thornbridge Hall as our ceremony venue, we couldn’t have been more pleased. We both love the Peak District, so wanted to say our vows there. Thornbridge was the perfect mix of a stunning backdrop for ceremony, whilst also being casual and relaxed (and having great beer too). Our wedding breakfast and evening reception was held at Hotel Van Dyk, which had a lovely country location and feel, and was closer to home for our family and friends.”

And how was the party at night?!

“The dance floor was full all night – our loved ones sure know how to party! I took three pairs of shoes (day, night and knackered) and was so glad I had a comfy option to change in to so that I could keep dancing! The sparkler send off we did was so much fun and an inexpensive way to get some beautiful shots.”

Finally, how did you find the photography element? What was your experience of having Sarah photograph your day and the final product you received?

“Photography was the first thing we booked for our wedding and I’m so so grateful that Sarah stuck by us every time we had to make changes, she was the one consistent thing all the way through.
I’d followed Sarah’s photography for a while before we started officially wedding planning. I loved her style, particularly the candid way she captures emotion. On the day, we were both so relaxed around Sarah, I hardly realised she was taking our picture. We didn’t realise until after the wedding all of the little (not officially photography) things that she did to make our day go more smoothly, thank you!
On the day we received the pictures, we cracked open a bottle of bubbly and sat down to watch the album together. We laughed, we smiled, we cried. The wedding day goes by so quickly that you seem to forget so much of what happened, looking at the photos reminded us of the details we’d missed or forgotten. We’ve since shared the album with lots of family and friends, and had lots of laughter and tears with them.
We love our wedding photos, thank you!
Best wishes,
Hannah and Sam xxx”
